The Star Sports sister sites in a nutshell
Star Sports has no direct active sister sites on the same Star Racing Limited UKGC licence. The active trading name is star sports, and the active domains are Star Sports domains rather than separate brands. The brands worth comparing are connected in looser but useful ways: AK Bets through its old Star Racing licence history, PricedUp through the same Star House business address and the Off Course Bookmakers link, McBookie through a former Star Racing domain and current active UK licensing elsewhere, and NE Bet as a legacy Star Racing domain I’d treat with caution.

The Star Sports links that are actually worth knowing
Star Sports doesn’t have the sort of family tree you get from Entain, Flutter or Skill On Net. The true comparison is narrower and more bookmaking-specific: which active brands still carry a real Star Racing connection, a Star House address link, a former licence-domain trail, or the same traditional racing character?
AK Bets
- Relationship: A former Star Racing licence domain and the cleanest historical Star Sports connection that still matters to players.
- Best for: Racing punters who like Star Sports’ serious personality but want a newer challenger with a more direct “big prices and big limits” pitch.
- What feels similar: Racing sits at the heart of the brand, the tone is punter-led, and the product feels built for people who know what they want to back.
- What feels different: AK Bets now runs under Akbo Limited’s own UKGC account, so it isn’t a live Star Sports sister site in the regulatory sense.
- Why it matters: If someone asks for a Star Sports sister site, AK Bets is the first serious comparison I’d give them, but I’d still explain the licence split before they deposit.
PricedUp
- Relationship: A same-address business cousin rather than a direct Star Sports sister site.
- Best for: Players who want a modern bookmaker account with a cleaner, newer wrapper than Star Sports.
- What feels similar: Off Course Bookmakers Limited is based at Star House, 255 Old Shoreham Road, Hove, which puts PricedUp in the same physical space as Star Racing.
- What feels different: PricedUp sits on a separate UKGC licence, with its own active domain and its own brand position.
- Why it matters: It’s the most relevant comparison when you consider that the teams behind the site work in the same office.
McBookie
- Relationship: A former Star Racing site, now better treated as a historic connection rather than a current Star Sports sister site.
- Best for: Players who want a more regional bookmaker feel, especially Scottish racing, football and lower-league betting flavour.
- What feels similar: It still belongs in the old racing-and-bookmaker culture rather than the slick corporate bookmaker lane.
- What feels different: The current UKGC licence points to Playquarry Limited, with McBookie listed under that separate account rather than Star Racing’s active domain list.
- Why it matters: It’s useful as a historical comparison, but I wouldn’t sell it to anyone as a live Star Sports sister site.
Fitzdares
- Relationship: No direct ownership or licence relationship, but a strong bookmaker-style alternative for the same type of player.
- Best for: Players drawn to Star Sports because they like personal service, racing culture and a more old-fashioned bookmaking feel.
- What feels similar: The appeal comes from bookmaker personality, phone service and a less mass-market tone than the biggest high-street brands.
- What feels different: Fitzdares leans more into clubby premium service, while Star Sports feels more trackside and odds-board driven.
- Why it matters: If the Star Racing-linked names feel too messy or too narrow, Fitzdares is the cleaner lifestyle bookmaker comparison.
Why this is a connection collection, not a classic sister sites arrangement
Star Racing Limited’s UKGC licence is tidy at the active end: one active trading name, Star Sports, and active Star Sports domains. That means there isn’t a live Star Racing stable of separate brands to compare inside the same account.
The old domains are what make things interesting. AK Bets, NE Bet and McBookie have all appeared in the Star Racing licensing picture in the past, but the brands have all moved on. AK Bets now has its own Akbo Limited licence. McBookie now sits under Playquarry Limited. NE Bet is too muddled and keeps bouncing around between operators too often to treat as a front-line recommendation. PricedUp matters for a different reason: Off Course Bookmakers Limited shares the Star House address and has an inactive Star Sports entry on its own UKGC licence, so the connection is a strong one.
Best picks by player type
Best connected alternative for racing value
AK Bets is the one I’d start with because the Star Racing link is meaningful, the racing focus is obvious, and the current licence is cleanly separate.
Best if you want the Star House connection
PricedUp makes the most sense if you’re interested in a site that was made by people working in the same office as the people who run Star Sports.
Best for Scottish bookmaker character
McBookie is the better route if the appeal is regional racing and football personality rather than Star Sports’ Hove heritage.
Best if personal service matters most
Fitzdares is the alternative I’d compare if the thing you like about Star Sports is the more personal, phone-friendly, less factory-made bookmaker feel.
Ownership and licensing
Star Sports is legal for players in Britain. It’s operated by Star Racing Limited, company number 06475105, under UKGC account 9177. The listed head office is Star House, 255 Old Shoreham Road, Hove, BN3 7ED. The account has active remote permissions for bingo, casino, general betting standard real events and general betting standard virtual events.
Star Racing also has an unfortunate compliance history. In July 2023, the Gambling Commission announced a £594,000 penalty for anti-money-laundering and social responsibility failings, with an official warning and extra licence conditions. The failings related to the period between March 2020 and May 2021. That doesn’t stop Star Sports from operating today, but it’s exactly the kind of fact I’d want in front of me before deciding how much trust to place in the brand.
The current Star Sports offers are more bookmaker than casino
The sports welcome route is Bet £50, get a £25 Free Bet with promo code BET50GET25. The important practical detail is that this is a free bet reward, not cash. The qualifying bet needs to be made as a new customer using the correct promo code, and the reward is tied to the usual free bet conditions rather than a withdrawable cash bonus. I’d treat the qualifying stake, qualifying odds and expiry window as the pieces to check before registering, because Star Sports changes sports promo codes more often than I’d like.
The casino welcome route is more specific: use promo code bigbass100, make a minimum £25 deposit, wager £25 on eligible Big Bass slots on the same day as registration, and receive 100 free spins on Big Bass Splash. The spins are worth 10p each, so the headline value is £10. The spins are credited the following day by midday and expire after 7 days.
The wagering is the bit I’d watch. Winnings from those free spins must be wagered 10x on Pragmatic Play casino slots before withdrawal. Sports, live casino, virtuals and bingo wagers don’t count towards the casino welcome trigger, and bonus-restricted customers won’t qualify. The promotion is also tied to affiliate-sign-up rules, so players arriving via different routes may not see the same offer.
My view is simple: Star Sports is more convincing as a bookmaker than as a bonus destination. The free bet route is simple enough, while the casino spins offer is narrow, game-specific and more work than the headline first suggests.
Payments, withdrawals and KYC
Star Sports feels old-fashioned in the cashier, and I don’t mean that as an insult. The practical routes are built around debit cards and bank transfer, with Visa and Mastercard the main everyday options. The minimum deposit most players should expect is £10. I wouldn’t join Star Sports expecting PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafecard, Google Pay or Apple Pay.
Withdrawal information is thinner than I’d like before login. The payment guide lists withdrawals for cards and bank transfers in the 2 to 5 working-day range, though some card withdrawals may arrive faster once approved. The minimum withdrawal is treated differently across payment summaries, so I’d check the cashier before planning a small test withdrawal.
Closed-loop payment rules matter here. Expect withdrawals to go back to a method connected to your deposit where possible, and don’t use somebody else’s card. Star Sports can ask for identity, address, payment ownership and source-of-funds information, especially where stakes, deposits or withdrawals are larger than normal.
The upside is that the limited payment stack keeps things simple. The downside is obvious: if you’re used to e-wallet speed and choice, Star Sports will feel narrow.
A bookmaker first, with casino sitting behind it
Star Sports’ identity starts with racing. The site covers football, horse racing, greyhounds, cricket, darts, tennis, politics, rugby, golf and the usual sportsbook spread, but the racing feel is still the pulse of the brand. That’s why the closest alternatives shouldn’t be random casino brands. They should be bookmakers with a point of view.
The casino side is there, with slots, table games, live casino and bingo available from the same account. I don’t think that’s the main reason to choose Star Sports. The stronger reason is the mix of online betting, phone access, racing culture and a brand that still behaves like it remembers the ring. That creates a useful divide. Players who want a polished app with endless payment options may be happier elsewhere. Players who want a sharper bookmaker personality, especially around racing, will understand Star Sports quickly.
Support and complaints
Star Sports is better than many smaller bookmakers in terms of contact detail visibility. The phone number is prominent, and that suits the brand. For basic queries, I’d start with the help area or phone line. For anything involving documents, account restrictions, settlement disputes or withdrawals, email gives you a cleaner paper trail.
Support email: cs@starsportsbet.co.uk
Phone number: 08000 521 321
Postal address: Star House, 255 Old Shoreham Road, Hove, BN3 7ED
Live chat: No live chat route
ADR route: IBAS is named in the complaints route for betting and gaming transaction disputes
Keep complaint evidence tidy: bet ID, market, odds, settlement time, screenshot, account email, payment reference and the rule you believe applies. For a bookmaker like Star Sports, that matters more than sending an emotional complaint. The cleaner the dispute, the harder it is for any operator to blur the issue.
What I like, and what I don’t
What I like
- Star Sports still feels like a bookmaker with a real racing identity rather than a generic sports app.
- AK Bets gives racing punters a meaningful connected alternative without the two brands sharing a live licence.
- The phone number is easy to find, which fits the brand’s old-school service angle.
- The limited cashier will suit players who prefer cards and bank transfer over a cluttered payment menu.
What I don’t
- There are no direct active Star Sports sister sites.
- The 2023 Gambling Commission penalty is a serious trust caveat, even though the brand remains licensed today.
- The casino welcome offer is narrow and game-specific, with 10x wagering on free spin winnings.
- The payment information could be clearer on withdrawal minimums and method-by-method timings.
My final verdict on Star Sports and its closest connections
I’d judge Star Sports by one question: do you want a bookmaker with a recognisable racing backbone, or do you want the easiest modern betting app on the shelf? If it’s the second, I’d move towards a slicker mainstream brand. If it’s the first, Star Sports still has a reason to exist. The warning label is trust, not legality. The UK licence is active, the brand is established, and the phone-led bookmaker feel is convincing, but the 2023 fine and narrow cashier mean I’d keep stakes sensible until the account has proved itself. For connected alternatives, AK Bets is the sharpest route, PricedUp is the Hove-address cousin, and McBookie is the regional wildcard. The worst move would be treating every historical name as a live sister site, because that’s how players end up comparing the wrong things.
